Which Types of RVs Require Individual Insurance Coverage in Tennessee?

About Tennessee’s Requirements for RV Insurance

If you are considering buying an RV in Memphis, TN, you already know that you have a variety of options to choose from. What you may not know is which type requires individual RV insurance. While some types of RVs are covered under your auto insurance policy, others are not. For an explanation about individual RV coverage, contact our team at Keltner Insurance, so that we can go over the type of policy your RV requires.

What to Know About Individual RV Coverage

In Tennessee, there are three types of RVs that require individual coverage that is separate from your auto insurance. These include Class A, Class B, and Class C.

Since these are motorized vehicles traversing the highways, just like your car, truck, or SUV, the vehicle needs its own policy. The state also requires minimum liability limits for bodily injury, death per person, death per accident, and property damage per accident. When you speak with our agents, we will go over with you the dollar amount for each of the liability limits.

Exceptions to Individual RV Coverage

If you own a fifth wheel, travel trailer, or pop-up camper, these are considered to be towable RVs. The vehicle towing these types of RVs provides insurance coverage. An exception to the exception is, if the towable RV is being financed, or you are leasing it, you will most likely be required to provide an individual policy for collision and comprehensive coverage.
